Are you looking for a way to ring in the holiday season? Then volunteer to be a bell ringer during The Salvation Army of Charlottesville VA Red Kettle campaign. Since 1891, when Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee resolved to provide a free Christmas dinner to the area’s poor in San Francisco by collecting donations in a large pot, bell ringers and red kettles have been at the heart of The Salvation Army’s mission. Today, the Red Kettle Campaign is a tradition that has spread throughout the United States and around the world.
When does the Red Kettle Campaign take place?
Bell ringing season starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve. We do not ring bells on Sundays.
Where does the money raised in the red kettles go, and how is it used?
Funds raised in our community are dedicated to serve the people who live here and are recovering from many kinds of personal disasters. The Salvation Army of the Virginia Peninsula uses the donations we collect to support our local services and programs. We provide emergency assistance, food assistance, seasonal assistance, emergency shelters, youth enrichment programs and more.
Who can volunteer to help with the Red Kettle campaign?
Nearly anyone! Individuals, groups (corporate, church, school, university, civic, work, neighborhood), friends, and children (with adult supervision).
