The Salvation Army has been meeting the needs of the Hampton Roads area since 1905. During more than a century of service, The Salvation Army strives – each day – to reach those in need be them hungry, the homeless, at-risk or lost, The Salvation Army strives to help.
Thanks to generous community support, The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command is always available to serve those in need. The Army believes in treating each person who comes to us as an individual, not a statistic. And each person or family that The Army touches represents a miracle, whether it’s in the form of shelter, a hot meal, a listening ear or any of our other services.

Programs and Services
Among our greatest challenges is to continue to fund and develop relevant programs and services that address the emerging spiritual, social and economic needs of our community. This is what The Salvation Army strives to do 365 days of the year.
Disaster Services
In the wake of a disaster, The Salvation Army responds immediately to provide services to those in need. Homeless
The Salvation Army provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for men at our HOPE Center for Men in Norfolk. Our staff assists homeless with day services including clothing vouchers, lockers, laundry services, voicemail and telephone services and more while participants look for employment, seek transitional or permanent housing opportunities, learn to save money and acquire the skills necessary to live independently. Homeless Women & Children
H.O.P.E. Village, The Salvation Army’s residential housing program for homeless single women and women with children provides women and their children and opportunity to gain the skills necessary to successfully transition back into society. HOPE Village offers a home, mentors, seminars as well as other day services to assist these women and their children in getting off the street and back into society in 6 months. Help for Families & Individuals
Through our Social Services office, The Salvation Army provides rent assistance, utility assistance, food supplements, and more.
Christmas Programs
The opportunities to give to The Salvation Army during Christmas are equal to that of the services offered during that time. Throughout Christmas, eligible families receive food supplements, Angel Tree gifts of clothing and apparel, toys, gifts for parents, stockings as well as gifts for children ages 0-12. Back to School
It is critical that at-risk and in-need children receive the essentials to getting off to a new school year properly. Through local support, The Salvation Army distributes school supplies, including pencils, pens, paper, binders, backpacks and more to children in need. Addiction
The Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Virginia Beach is a special program for men addressing issues related to addiction. The ARC offers the men a second chance, by providing training in job skills, individual and group counseling, as well as other tools for rebuilding positive lifestyles.
