Preparing and sharing a meal with shelter residents, providing items to help them transition easily into their home after shelter, spreading hope and joy during a hard season have a lasting impact on volunteers and residents alike. While reduced shelter capacity impacted our shelter volunteer opportunities in 2020, we are still grateful for the organizations and individuals who in some way continued to serve.

We’d also like to give a special thanks to all our volunteers who supported our high risk emergency shelter at R Street at the start of the pandemic. During a time of immense uncertainty and transition, you joined alongside us to serve those most in need without hesitation.

After the pandemic started, Mr. Hill lost his job, and soon his son's school closed. With bills piling up and no income, they soon lost their home and were sleeping on the streets.

After weeks of uncertainty, they were placed at The Salvation Army's Emergency Shelter. With a safe place to stay and dedicated case management, Mr. Hill regained employment. He is able to bring his son to work while he does his schooling virtually. The father and son have now moved into their own apartment and are at peace once again.
