About The Salvation Army of Roanoke, Virginia
The Salvation Army operates a corps (church) and community center in Southeast Roanoke. Seven days a week, activities are taking place in the center, including worship services and programs in the chapel, youth character building programs, adult educational classes, a community art group, and “Life after 50” (Seniors Program), depending on the time of year. The Pathway of Hope initiative, which seeks to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty, is housed in this building as is crisis case management services and seasonal programs like Angel Tree.
The New Day Center is a drop-in center for youth ages 18-24 aging out of foster care or at-risk of homelessness. It provides a safe place for youth to relax, receive wrap around community services, attend educational classes, take a shower, do laundry and get a bite to eat.
The Turning Point is the area’s only secure center for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual exploitation & human trafficking in the Roanoke Valley. Its location is undisclosed and is a national award winning program that practices trauma informed care for clients and their children. Due to the nature of this program there is a separate volunteer training around the issues of domestic violence.
