Promoted to Glory: Lt. Colonel Stanley Jaynes
Lt. Colonel Stanley Jaynes was Promoted to Glory on July 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87.
Stanley William Jaynes, known by his family and friends as “Bud,” was born on December 27, 1937. Born to Salvation Army officer parents, Lt. Colonel C.W. and Katie Jaynes, Stanley was raised in the mission field of The Salvation Army. He joyfully embraced that calling for himself, entering the Evangeline Booth College in 1962 as a member of the Heroes of the Faith session of cadets.
Following his commissioning and ordination in 1964, he faithfully ministered across the United States and the Caribbean. He served in a wide range of leadership roles, including as a corps officer, the editorial assistant for The War Cry, and in divisional staff appointments. In 1993, he was appointed Southern Territorial business administrator, where he brought strength, strategy, and spiritual wisdom to the stewardship of resources.
His sharp mind and deep integrity left a lasting mark on the Army’s systems of financial management, training, and mentoring of officers and staff, in both fiscal leadership and servant-hearted ministry.
After his official retirement, Colonel Jaynes continued to serve with joy and purpose, offering his expertise in the Southern Territorial Finance Department and accepting post-retirement service in the Caribbean and later in São Paulo, Brazil. Whether serving in the Caribbean or in South America, he remained deeply committed to the mission, sharing both administrative insight and pastoral care with humility and grace.
A gifted teacher and preacher, Colonel Jaynes brought the Word of God to life with depth and tenderness. His Bible studies were rich with insight and humility, and his sermons invited listeners to encounter scripture not just with understanding, but with reverence. Generations of Salvationists were shaped by his example of holy living.
He often encouraged those around him to be “God’s happy, holy, healing people.” It was a phrase he not only preached, but lived with gentleness, joy, and grace.
Lt. Colonel Stanley Jaynes is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lt. Colonel Jean Jaynes, as well as their children: Bill (Tamme) Jaynes, Stephen (Kimberly) Jaynes, Sharon (Joseph) Johnson, and Susan (Michael) Felbinger; as well as 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sandy Jaynes, and a large extended family who carry his light and love forward.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for August 2, 2025, at the Atlanta Temple Corps, with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery.
