Promoted to Glory: Major James Waller
Major James Waller was Promoted to Glory on September 3, 2025, at the age of 87 in Rowlett, TX.
James Edward Waller was born on February 1, 1938, in Kinston, NC to parents Burt and Eunice Waller.
He accepted Christ as Lord and Savior in November 1952 and in 1958 was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer as a member of the Courageous session of cadets. His first four appointments were as assistant corps officer in Washington Georgetown, DC; Alexandria, VA; and Clarksburg and Fairmont, WV.
He served as corps officer in Columbus, Griffin, and Atlanta Fulton, GA; Covington and Petersburg, VA; Bluefield, WV; Lufkin, Galveston, Lubbock, and Corpus Christi, TX; Louisville Brook Street, KY; Chattanooga Citadel, TN; and Amarillo, TX (post-retirement). His final appointments were to Chattanooga and Memphis, TN as area commander. Majors Jim and Patricia Waller entered honored retirement on July 1, 2003, after 34 years of active service.
Major James Waller is preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings Louise Goff and Ray Waller. He is survived by his wife, Major Patricia Waller, and their children: James (Patty) Waller, Jr., Jan (Eric) Rodgers, Jeff Gudgeon, Angie (Jonathan) Robertson, Sonja Clark, Melinda (Randy) Robledo, and Tricia (Bernard) Tolan. He also leaves 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. One brother, David Waller, also survives the major.
A Celebration of Life service was held at The Salvation Army in Garland, TX, on September 6, 2025, followed by interment at Lake View Cemetery in Lavon, TX.
